Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel Marshyangdi.

You will be greeted by a panoramic view of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below as you fly into Kathmandu. A member of the Global Shenanigans team will be waiting at the airport to meet you.

Day 2

Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.

Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal. It presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence. There will be a guided tour to UNESCO World Heritage Sites to help us discover the heart and soul of Nepal.

Day 3

Drive to Ramechhap and fly to Lukla (2860m).

An early morning start to get to the airport, followed by a scenic 20 minute flight to Lukla. Then our trek begins as we make our way to Phakding (2640m).

Day 4

Trek to Namche (3450m) – 6/7 hours.

From Phakding, we cross then recross the river on high suspension bridges. We will officially enter the Sagamartha National Park, which was set up to protect and preserve the mountain environment. If the weather is clear, we’ll have our first sighting of Everest from the trail. Namche Bazaar is a suprisingly vibrant market town in the mountains, where you can top up on equipment, supplies and souvenirs.

Day 5

Rest day in Namche.

This day is used to help us acclimatise. We’ll spend it exploring the town and its many coffee shops, as well as a visit to the Sherpa museum and a hike up to the view point for views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse and Everest.

Day 6

Trek to Tengboche (3860m) – 5/6 hours.

The trail traverses the side of a valley as we make our way deeper into the mountains. We pass small settlements and stupas. We begin to descend down to the river, before making our way steeply upwards to Tengboche Monastery, a remarkable monastery and largest in the Khumbu region.

Day 7

Trek to Dingboche (4940m) – 5 hours.

Descending through the forest and across the river, we make our way to Pangboche, a village located directly across from Ama Dablam.

Day 8

Rest day in Dingboche.

We call it a ‘rest’ day. But actually we’ll be walking to a view point for 360 mountain views. Hiking high and sleeping low is a mountaineering technique to help your body adjust to the lower oxygen levels, making the following days slightly easier on the body.

Day 9

Trek to Lobuche (4940m) – 6 hours.

We continue up the wide valley beneath the impressive peaks of Cholatse and Taboche on the left. We then turn right and take a steep climb towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier. At the top of this climb there are many stone cairns, built as memorials to the Sherpa and international climbers who have died while climbing Mt Everest.

Day 10

Trek to Gorakshep (5184m) and reach Everest Base Camp (5357m) – 7/8 hours.

Today’s the day! An early start is required to reach Gorakshep where we’ll stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we make our way to the base camp. It takes several hours as the trail weaves its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier.

Day 11

Sunset or sunrise at Kala Patthar (5545m) & trek back to Pheriche (4252m) – 7 hours.

In the early morning, we make our way to the top of one of the best viewpoints of Everest, Kala Patthar (5545m). It’s a steep trail, so we’ll take a comfortable pace to reach on the top. Then it’s back to Gorakshep and on our way down.

Day 12

Trek to Namche (3450m) – 7/8 hours.

Today’s trek is mostly downhill. We continue to follow the river and, after crossing it, climb back up through birch and rhododendron forest to Tengboche. Kwangde, Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku are just a few of the Himalayan giants to be seen.

Day 13

Trek to Lukla (2860m) – 6 hours.

Our final day’s trek follows the river back down to Lukla for celebrations!

Day 14

Fly back to Ramechhap and drive to Kathmandu.

Day 15

Free Day / Contingency Day

This day is spare in case of Lukla flight delays, as they can be affected by fog and cloud. Visit temples, UNESCO World Heritage Sites or book in a much needed massage.

Day 16

Depart Kathmandu… or continue the adventure!

Check out more expeditions here!

Trip of a lifetime

Absolutely brilliant trip to a place I’ve always wanted to visit.
Chris was a fantastic trip leader and really knows his stuff. From the trek to all the places we visited along the way he kept us informed of the significance and history at each site. My taste palate is not the most adventurous and Chris advised what was good or what to avoid as we trekked.
Pre trek advice was spot on to allow us to cope with any conditions we may have encountered although we were extremely lucky and had brilliant weather for the entire trek. Everyone I met on the trip were friendly and could not do enough to help you succeed on the final goal to EBC. The Sherpas and contacts Chris has are top notch. This was my first trip with Chris and I can’t wait to join him on our next trip to Kilimanjaro.
A final thank you to my trekking colleagues who made it such a memorable experience. Cheers all 😊.

Best trek ever

I had an experience of a lifetime with global shenanigans and for filling my dream of seeing Everest base camp. The guides (Chris and local sonnam) were super helpful and accommodating, answer all questions and all task minor and major completely taken care of. Unreal trek for seeing some of the greatest mountains in the world. Couldn’t recommend them enough!!!!!

EBC 2025 Trip of a lifetime !!

THIS WAS THE BEST MOST AMAZING ADVENTURE. Global Shenanigans really made my trip. Having Chris there with us was awesome and our guides Sonam and Raj were the most helpful people plus the wonderful porters who ensured our bags made it from one place to the next way faster than us ! Turning up and having everything sorted with Chris there to harass with silly questions was ideal so all I had to do was focus on the walk. Could not recommend one of these trips more the people you meet along the way and the things you get to see are unforgettable!!!!! Had the best time with the whole crew and we all made it to the base camp !! Thanks Global Shenanigans ❤️🏔️
